Bullying can have long term effects on teens. Youth report feeling tense, anxious and afraid. Victims of bullying often report they have a difficult time concentrating at school, and will often avoid school all together.
Bullying that goes on for long periods of time affects how youth feel about themselves. Low self esteem and low confidence are identified as major concerns for victims. Feeling lonely and isolated often leads to feeling depressed, anxious and insecure.
If you are being bullied find a trusted friend or adult to talk to. Remember you don't deserve to be treated this way and there are people who want to help.
Research Suggests:
Peers can be a positive influence in stopping bullying. Their role in addressing the problems in school is critical as they are almost always present and occasionally intervene, whereas adults seldom witness and intervene in bullying.
